The State House, formerly known as the Government House, is the official residence of the President of Fiji. This Georgian mansion, built between 1926 and 1928, replaced the original wood-frame buildings from the 1880s that served as the colonial governor’s residence. The original building was destroyed by lightning in 1921. From 1970 to 1987, it served as the residence of the governor-general, and in 1987, following two military coups, it became the presidential residence after Fiji was declared a republic.
In 2017, the Government House was renamed the State House. It is a prominent historical building in Fiji, hosting ceremonial functions for dignitaries and VVIP guests and serving as the private residence of the Head of State. The State House continues to play a significant role in Fiji’s heritage, reflecting the nation’s political and social changes over the years.
